How much do train tickets to the Czech Republic cost

We're not sure that tickets on Tuesday or Wednesday will always be cheaper. But we know what affects their cost. The Czech Republic: why it's worth visiting

The mysterious and magical Czech Republic welcomes millions of tourists every year. Visitors come here to feel the grandeur of Prague's historic royal spirit, to see how modern industry intertwines with Ostrava's architecture, or to find harmony and peace in the healing Karlovy Vary.

What to see in the Czech Republic

Prague

The capital of the Czech Republic is considered one of the most beautiful European cities. Gothic temples, ancient bridges, and winding streets add even more mystery to Prague. You can feel the mystical spirit of the capital while standing next to Prague Castle. This is one of the largest castles in the world, built in the 14th century in Gothic style. Once, the castle was the residence of Czech kings; today, it is the seat of the President of the Czech Republic. The city pedestrian bridge that connects the Old Town with other districts of Prague will also be interesting for tourists. The bridge is named after Emperor Charles IV, who laid the first stone of the structure.

The highlight of modern Prague is the Dancing House, created by Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry in the deconstructivist style. It is an administrative-office building where you can take beautiful photos. And to see what the Dancing House looks like inside, we recommend visiting the European cuisine restaurant or café located on the top floors.

Another modern artistic object is the "Head of Franz Kafka" standing near the Quadrio shopping complex. This modern sculpture made of stainless steel consists of horizontal layers that rotate at different speeds and at certain times form the head of the famous Czech writer Franz Kafka.

Brno

This is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, whose architecture resembles Austrian Vienna. Like most European cities, Brno has a main square with a town hall. However, there are unique and special locations here that are worth visiting.

One of the most famous is the Church of St. James. It was built in 1525 in the Baroque style. The church attracts tourists not only with its grandeur. On the south side above the second-floor window, there is a small statue of a man showing his bare buttocks towards the Church of St. Peter and Paul nearby. According to legend, this statue depicts a disgruntled mason greeting the builders of the neighboring church in this way. Moreover, in 2001, during the reconstruction of the square near the Church of St. James, 50,000 human remains were found, buried here over several centuries. Today, this ossuary is a unique tourist place, but not everyone who comes to Brno dares to visit it.

Ostrava

This is a northeastern Czech city bordering Poland. Perhaps because of this proximity, people say that Ostrava is a completely different Czech Republic. Or perhaps because the city has always been both a historical-architectural and industrial center of the country. There are dozens of interesting industrial sites here, such as the Vítkovice Ironworks. Founded in 1828, it became the largest in the then Czechoslovakia. Today, the plant is not operational; since 2001, its facilities have become monuments of national cultural significance.

Karlovy Vary

This is a resort city in the Czech Republic, famous for its healing springs and a well-known European festival held here every summer. For tourists visiting Karlovy Vary for the first time, the colonnades will be interesting. The most famous of them is the Mill Colonnade. It consists of 124 columns and 12 sculptures, each symbolizing a month of the year. The colonnade stretches for 132 meters. Under it are located 5 healing springs.

Karlovy Vary is also famous for Loket Castle, which was once a royal residence. Today, a museum operates here. The castle is located on the top of a hill. According to legend, ghosts and gnomes live in it.

The Czech Republic: where to stay

The Czech Republic offers tourists many options for overnight stays: from hotels and private apartments to inexpensive hostels. Like tickets, you can quickly and conveniently find accommodation online on services like Booking.com.

What to try in the Czech Republic

They say that to unravel the mystery of Czech cities, you need to explore them with the music of local composers. And to feel the uniqueness of this country, we advise you to try dishes of Czech national cuisine. Svíčková na smetaně and pork with dumplings are the best choices for lunch in Prague, Ostrava, or Brno. Among drinks, we recommend trying beer or sweet wines produced in the southern regions of the country.
